The Senior Design Engineer is responsible for managing day-to-day tasks and long-term development related to solar PV system design and implementation. The position supports sales for the commercial business and develops design and manages design for commercial solar PV EPC (Engineering Procurement Construction) projects. This position oversees and coordinates technical/design support and communication between internal departments�sales, purchasing, construction, and project management. The Senior Design Engineer is also responsible for refining and documenting design/engineering processes, standardization of best practices, code compliance, and product/system application details. This position will manage the work of outside engineers and consultants if required to support design efforts and production of construction documents. In addition, this position forecasts engineering team staffing needs and coordinates internal and external technical training needs within all departments.
Pysical Environment:
Most time will be spent in an office environment, but occasional site visits and surveys may be performed in new construction and existing buildings which typically includes attics, basements, and mechanical/electrical rooms.
Physical Demands:
Will be on job sites occasionally, on roofs, climbing ladders, etc. Occasional lifting of up to 100 lbs. Significant time spent on the phone and working on computer.
Supervision Exercised:
Currently overseeing two members of the engineering and technical services team. |
| Duties: | � Manage design and engineering tasks to support commercial EPC projects, commercial EPC business development, and new product/vendor integration.
� Implement strategies for integration of new products, new vendors, code changes, and best practices, and disseminate to internal departments as needed.
� Manage applications technical support and implementation, participate in operational and strategic development discussions and planning with senior management, including build-out of engineering and applications support teams and translation of company vision into actionable plans.
� Oversee and coordinate the development, documentation, and communication of design/engineering/support processes, intra- and inter-departmental processes.
� Oversee, coordinate, and develop engineering tools � i.e., design development and system sizing tools.
� Assist sales and project managers in understanding cost and performance impact of technical and engineering details through sales, installation, and commissioning.
� Mentor and train members of the engineering team, oversee and coordinate interdepartmental technical training, and participate in external technical training events as requested.
� Lead engineering services related to PV system monitoring, data acquisition system and performance monitoring, and yield estimates for EPC projects.

| Qualifications: | Technical Requirements:
� Knowledge of construction practices including electrical, structural, and mechanical
� Commercial PV design experience, especially electrical design
� Experience with industry standard PV systems and energy modeling tools
� Knowledge of National Electric Code and other model codes
� Project management experience
� Engineering management experience
� Computer-based drafting experience (AutoCAD, MicroStation)
� Organized and detail oriented
Desired Skills:
� Project management experience

� Experience with energy audit or building/system commissioning practices
� Experience with cost/benefit analysis

Experience/Education Requirements:
� Bachelor�s degree in electrical or mechanical engineering and 5 years relevant experience
